  2. Note that the lot of 6 was passed on at the auction with a start bid of $95.00. I wouldn't go more than $15.00 per chair as they need some help to look good.
  3. Thank you for the links.

The one on Charish is different than mine. The prices on Charish are crazy; but the photos all look like museum quality pieces.

The ones from live auctions look like the ones that I found. It says lot passed, so I guess they didn't sell. The estimate was $600 to $1000 with the table.

  4. Thats what it means. The bidding started at $95.00, and no one raised their hand.
  5. YIKES! 6 chairs and table in what looks like perfect condition, no takers at $95.
  6. A thrift I go to had bought out a consignment store that closed and they have no less than 12 huge dining room sets . Most with china cabinets . Hes got them priced at $50 and up ,and a month later not one has sold . I TOLD him not to buy them !
  7. Wow. That puts things in perspective.
  8. Wow, even a mid-20th century set is not selling. Has the dining room market hit bottom?
  9. I would say DEAD!:dead:
Dining rooms are no more in modern households for the most part. Trend around here in Charlotte, if they happen to have a dining room, they tear down that wall & incorporate that dining space into the kitchen.
Yes, even if that wall is structural & you must hire a structural/civil engineer! Not unusual to spend thousands on that process just to remove a wall.
  10. This is pretty typical. Dining sets can be had here for less than $50.00. We buy them and sell them under $300 at retail (Sometimes well under) but they are slow sellers. It took me 6 months to sell a solid cherry set but I eventually got my $300.00.
  11. Huh! Spend thousands on knocking down a wall instead of a couple hundred for a beautiful hardwood dining room set? Is there no limit?
  12. Well, times change, fashions change and, if Mom decides that dining room wall is comin down, it's COMIN DOWN! she doesn't care that it's a structural wall, trust me!
  13. The newer generations...sadly.. do not (for the most part) have off on Sunday like well all did in my generation( we went to church and then family came over for dinner) THAT is gone thank you to the almighty dollar. Families are always running here with John and there with Sue...not even are husband and wife or partners home at the same time, let alone to dine together. So naturally WHY the need for a dining room. They never entertain at home, and if the do it is wine and snacks, no one cooks much either. Sad commentary on the morphing of society, but this is just my opinion. If you look around, most even if they are ARE dining together have a phone in their hands, they text each other across the table...CRAZY.

LOL...after my rant, that said...they cost less than Walmart chairs that are made from metal or pressboard that will gas off formaldehyde...I would rather have the Thomasville, update them with new seat covers they will last another 50 years.

  14. Texting each other across the table....funny if it weren't pathetic.

One of the few universal human truths is "ya gotta eat." Might as well do it together, right? Our kids are gone, but each night we sit at the dining room table and eat anyway. Phones and other distractions are checked at the door. It has a nice anchoring effect.

  15. That's old school .......... but....good school !!!!
I wait to eat with my wife , every night........unless she's working overtime.....and even then..!!
  16. LOL, Bunch of dang Fuddy Duddy's! The dining room space does not disappear like the wall does, it's just used differently. Most entertaining today centers around the kitchen anyway, at least it does at my house, with a sliding glass door leading to an outdoor deck from the kitchen.
WAKE UP KIDZ, IT AIN'T 1980 anymore! :hilarious:
  17. Get off my lawn ! :)
